The reading for this Sunday is about making decisions.  God is asking us a question.  Whom will we follow?   Joshua and the Israelites, after remembering all that God had done for them, decided to follow the God of their fathers. Sometimes the teachings of  Jesus, are too difficult for us to follow.  Some of Jesus’ followers found much of what He had to say too difficult for them to accept and decided to abandon Jesus.  Just as we sometimes do, they turned away to serve other gods. 

Let us open our hearts and pray that the one true God of mercy and forgiveness will strengthen us in our decision to continue to follow Christ.  May the words of Saint Peter then become our own words, “Lord, to whom shall we go?  You have the words of eternal life.”
