Feast of the Holy Rosary – Oct 7, 2012

Established in 1573 by St. Pius V, the Feast of the Holy Rosary was instituted in thankgiving for the Christian victory over teh Turks in the Battle of Lepanto. Because the feast falls in October, the entire month is dedicated to honoring Mary with the rosary.

But, the prayer of the rosary started much earlier than that. Legend has it that the recitation of the Rosary by St. Dominic that signaled the defeat of the Albigensian heretics at the battle fo Muret in 1213. It is believed that Heaven has on many occasions rewarded the faith of those who had recourse to this devotion in times of special danger.
