Now is the time to begin considering our personal Lenten itinerary of the time-tested practices of prayer, fasting, and works of charity so that, come Easter Sunday, we can celebrate the Lord’s Resurrection and our promised share in it, with mind and heart renewed!
Our objective should be to discard as much as we can of the excess baggage we burden ourselves with in our lives! Holy Mother Church asks us to simplify our lives so that we can concentrate on what and who really matter.
In other words, the objective is to experience that ongoing conversion of mind and heart which transforms us so that the Christ-life in us makes us more Christ-like.
As you plan your Lenten itinerary, it is best to keep it simple, just like your New Year resolutions. Be realistic about what you can do so you are faithful to the commitment you make. And, on the journey to Easter Sunday, you will have lived the words of Saint Paul, “All I want is to know Him (Christ) and the power of His Resurrection.” Philippians 3:10.
