November 1 – Solemnity of All Saints is a Holy Day of Obligation

Officially known in the Catholic Church as “Solemnity of All Saints”, November 1, which is a Holy Day of Obligation is also known as “The Feast of All Saints” or “All Saints Day.”

Scheduled Mass times are as follows:

Wednesday Oct 31 (Anticipatory Mass): 5:10 PM

Thursday, Nov 1: 11:00 AM; 11:40 AM; 12:30 PM; 5:10 PM

According to historians, the earliest recorded observance of the feast in honor of all the saints is an early fourth-century commemoration of “all the martyrs.” But, it was not until 800 that the “Solemnity” was observed on November 1st by Anglo-Saxon theologian Alcuin as did his friend Arno, Bishop of Salzburg. Rome finally adopted that date in the ninth century.
