October is the Month of the Most Holy Rosary

wooden-rosaryTraditionally, the Catholic Church has dedicated the month of October to Our Blessed Mother.

The origin of the rosary in the form we know it today is arguably attributed to Saint Dominic in the 13th century and follows on from the mid-twelfth century development of the “Hail Mary” as a formula of devotional prayer.

The practice of meditating on definite sets of “mysteries” (joyful, sorrowful, glorious, and luminous) while saying the beads came much later.

During this month of October, we invite everyone to pray the Rosary. We can take this as an opportunity of making it our goal to forgive those whom we have perceived as having done us any injustice, to pray for world peace, to extricate hunger and poverty, end abortion, and to grow in our faith with Mary’s help.
