Pope Benedict XVI Announces the Year of Faith

Pope Benedict XVI has published his Apostolic Letter called “Porta Fidei” or “Door of Faith”.  This document officially calls for a “Year of the Faith” beginning October 11, 2012 until November 24, 2013 and is set to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Vatican II.

The Apostolic Letter emphasizes that “believing is not a private matter” and that faith “has a social responsibility”. In his letter, Pope Benedict XVI invites Catholics to actively engage on behalf of the New Evangelization to “rediscover the joy of believing and the enthusiasm fo communicating the faith.”
